Screening Process

ZenTech has a rigorous screening process for potential volunteers to ensure that the trials are conducted as safely and risk-free as possible.

Although there is some variation in our screening process (depending on which drug we are trialing), there are some general guidelines that we follow.

Generally, we do not accept potential volunteers who:

  • are allergic to the particular drugs being trialed or have any history of allergies
  • are not aged between 18-55
  • have any history of recurring asthma, wheezing, bronchitis, migraine, headaches or fainting episodes
  • have any history of chest complaints (including heart conditions), chest pains or shortness of breath.
  • are taking or have taken particular drugs that could interfere with the trial drug in the last 7 days or within 14 days prior to dosing. (The list of these drugs is entirely dependent on the trial drug)
  • have a history of alcohol abuse or drug abuse/dependency or who test positive for drug use as part of the screening procedures
  • have any history of epilepsy (fits, seizures or convulsions)
  • have, or have had any diagnosed medical conditions
  • whose body weight is not within 15% of the desirable body weight for age and height according to the Metropolitan Life Insurance Tables
  • are Hepatitis A, B or C and/or HIV positive
  • have participated in a drug study or clinical trial of any kind, or donated blood in the 60 days preceding the start of the study, or intend to have any dental or surgical procedure performed within one month of the study ending
  • are planning to start a family within 60 days of dosing
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • do not completely understand the information contained in this document due to limitations of your understanding of the English language. This will also be assessed by the physician during your medical examination
  • do not consent to us contacting your GP prior to the commencement of the study if necessary, about the medical history or at the end of the study to report any adverse reactions
  • do not provide informed consent
Risks

Generally, it is common to experience mild to moderate side effects. These will be outlined in detail, depending on what drug is being trialed.
